My post: Men and Women

best and last

What McCain can say: “Our country is the best and last bulwark against the encroachment of socialism.”

That’ll get the Republicans fired up.

The $80 billion plan to provide children health care. Screw that, use the $80 billion to bail out AIG instead. Heave more billions onto the billionaires.

Let injustice be done, though the Dow falls.

Palin did well

So the world is kind. Gwen Ifill had been sufficiently intimidated by the Republican machine, so no one could accuse her of being in the tank for Obama. You can witness her inability to question Sarah Palin further on why she listed her accomplishments as her “Achilles’ Heel.” What an idiot Palin is, but the slack-jawed yokels just lap her up. They get a hard-on for her.

I predict Palin will do remarkably well in the debate and pull McCain’s numbers up. If Palin was freed from having to remember what to say and instead speak from the heart, she will speak for herself and do remarkably well. All the previous interviews were setting expectations low, get people talking about how unqualified she is, so when she performs above this, people will turn around and admit she wasn’t as bad as they thought.

I know it. Her performance is that of a bulldog like Bush. Let’s hope Biden is better than Kerry. The candidate Kerry I am sad about, but no worse or matter. A new future differently awaits.

Making a stand

The other problems with making political statements are that taking a stand can turn people off, causing them to ignore or unfollow you. I tend to favor being congenial, even though I have opinions.

It can be because they support a different candidate or policy, but I think it’s more the whole shebang of discrete decisions, talking about it can bore people. It feels inane.

Today

Seinfeld ads were described as a farce. Doering wondered if the disappointment that is Vista will cause people to switch to the Macs.

good

Have the United States become a socialist country? Good, continue that trajectory.

Democracy Now!

MICHAEL HUDSON: You know, that’s true. He is not against it,
and it was, after all, a Democratic president, Clinton, who repealed
Glass-Steagall. And it was a Democratic Treasury secretary, Robert
Rubin, who supported all of this. So they’re the—

AMY GOODMAN: Top adviser to Obama.

Harpers

There’s no venality here. Cheney was not trying to aggrandize himself, to steer money to friends, or to set himself up for higher office. He simply believed that the stakes were high and he was more capable than others.

let us bow

The latest is Palin has been kept out of the press spotlight because she has not been shown enough “respect and deference.” Sure, respect is cool with me… but deference?! I shall not worship her, and I suspect, like Bush, she will make no visit to non-Republican states. Oh, let us bow.

McCain has released an ad implying Obama is a sex pedophile. Nice. Oh, let us bow.

The press has agreed that Palin’s flights are off the record. Oh, let us bow to this dereliction of duty. The one who could be president need not answer the press at all. She can be a figurehead to admire while behind her are cloak rooms and daggers.

I will not yield
To kiss the ground before young Palin’s feet.
And to be baited with the rabble’s curse.
